Nazia Rashid (Vice President)
Nazia is a Divorce & family law solicitor and trained mediator. She is an accredited Resolution specialist in financial provision and domestic abuse. Currently she is busy looking after her 1 year old daughter.
Prior to the birth of her daughter in 2015, Nazia was a partner (founding 2005 -2015) of Docklands Solicitors LLP which she set up in Canary Wharf. Over the years Nazia built up a quality caseload specialising in all aspects of family law with an emphasis on difficult financial divorce and children cases. Before setting up Docklands Solicitors Nazia was an assistant family law solicitor at Edwards Duthie Solicitors which is where she gained her invaluable training (1996 - 2005). In 2004 Nazia obtained an LLM from University of London specialising in plural legal systems in respect of divorce and financial settlements. Since 2012 Nazia has been a contributor to The International Family Law Practice, Jordan. - Distinctive Aspects of Islamic Law. In 2014 Nazia became a legal advisor at the pro bono unit at the Central Family Court.
Throughout her career she has been contacted by many with regards to the status and consequences of having a non-recognised marriage especially for Muslim women and the impact this can have on divorce/separation and financial settlements. Nazia has also been a visiting lecturer at the University of Westminster lecturing on her experience as a practitioner on domestic violence and the impact this can have on children. In the past has presented seminars in conjunction with The Law Society and the Association of Muslim Lawyers on topics such as, family law and religion - marriage, divorce and children, legal issues involved in the upbringing of a Muslim child; safeguarding children in the UK, medical, legal & ethical issues, an Islamic perspective. She has also participated in televised events on matters of interest.
In April 2016 she participated in a House of Lords Panel Discussion - Is UK Family Law Not Sufficient For British Muslim Women chased by Baroness Uddin.
